What is the last thing you want to hear while you try to take an afternoon nap. For me it’s a smoke detector. I get to nap rarely enough that when I finally do lie down I think I would rather burn to death than have a smoke detector go off and wake me up.
Fire fighters had to be called after the rare few hours of sunshine at the weekend led to the suns rays being refracted through a crystal ball on a window sill, causing a pair of curtains to catch alight and the fire to engulf a bedroom.
The fire crews arrived and were able to put the fire out limiting most of the damage to the bedroom. Luckily no one was hurt.
On another note, all you engineers out there, I’ve got a project for you. Let’s see who can come up with a new smoke detector that doesn’t go off for false positives. I want there to be a problem before I hear that horrible noise. A steamy shower shouldn’t be setting it off. An overcooked rasher of bacon shouldn’t be setting it off. Crystal balls that start the curtains on fire should. Let’s hear your ideas.
