Dreams Crushed: Return Trips to Mars Too Dangerous

mars500crew_largeRecent news has crushed my dreams yet again. NASA has finally gotten around to crunching the numbers on a radiation detector that flew to mars taped to the Curiosity Rover. What they found was that one trip to Mars would load you up with your lifetime limit of radiation. So you only get to go once.

Not that I’m going to Mars any time soon, I can’t even get two consecutive days off of work. But it gives me sads that I won’t be able to make unlimited trips when it does become feasible.

The thing is, now you can quote me on this but it won’t win you any arguments, this is what’s going to happen. Either 1) NASA is going to come up with some way to get people to Mars that won’t limit them out on radiation. I’m hoping for wormhole teleporters. Or 2) Anyone that does make two trips gets over radiated and becomes a superhero impervious to more radiation. My real hope is that my years spent wearing lead lined underwear has saved me enough that I’ll be allowed to go to Mars.

Please. Please let me go to Mars. I promise I’ll be good and I won’t claim the planet for the members of my clique. I totally will.
