I Need a Bath, and I Need it in This

ve_200613_02-630x387For years I’ve dreamed of putting a sunken tub in my dream home. Now I think I might go the other way completely. This is Vessel a new modern bathtub design by Splinter Works.

“Struck by the synergy between the shapes of two compelling symbols of relaxation, a hammock and a bath tub, we were inspired to develop a piece that would provide the ultimate vehicle for total escapism.” Miles Hartwell, Co-founder Splinter Works, June 2013

Vessel is made from carbon fibre which is utilised for its inherent strength and ability to be formed into complex curves, furthermore the weave of the fabric references the cloth of a typical hammock. Beneath the layers of carbon fibre lies a foam core, which insulates the tub, meaning the bath stays hot for considerably longer than normal.

At 2.7m long, Vessel is longer than a regular bathtub, leaving plenty of room to share the experience. Custom sizes are available but it is also designed so that it can be trimmed up to 20 cm to allow for flexible installation. Pictured here in black, it also available in red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze and pure silver.

Let me point out a couple of things that are awesome about this.
#1. It’s a hammock bathtub. That’s just great.
#2. It’s made of carbon fiber, that’s my favorite material.
#3. It comes in multiple sizes, not that anyone will share a bath with me, but it’s nice to know it is a possibility.
#4. Black, red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze, and silver! That’s the same color as my car. Each panel a different color.

Hit the jump for a bunch more shots.

I do have some worries about filling the tub. I see the spout, but if you’ll notice there are no handles to turn it on.
