Valley of the Reclining Woman

Have you ever been accused of having a butt-crack like a canyon? As it turns out that might not be a bad thing, it might just get you a job as a nude model. Of course, if you see an advertisement for a photographer looking for canyon-assed people I’m going to suggest you pass on that opportunity. Your family will not share in your pride.

In this series of photographs by Carl Warner, human bodies have been contorted, lit, and manipulated to form expansive landscapes reminiscent of barren deserts and mountains. The London-based photographer who might be best known for his Foodscapes, says that he shoots all of the forms in his studio to focus attention on “one person’s body, creating a sense of place so that a body that is lived in becomes a place to live.”

Warner takes pictures of his models and then Photoshops them together to make his landscapes. I have to imagine these landscapes all to be hot and humid and barren
