How handy would it be if you didn’t even have to take the dirty laundry out of the basket to wash it? Dead handy, that’s how.Well, that’s the idea with this new creation which is currently in the works by the people at Electrolux Design Lab.
Here, just read the description that the makers gave. Note, I’m not sure this was written in English the first time around.
Luna is an electrostatic spherical washing machine. The idea consists not to put the clothes into a washing machine, but rather, the washing machine between the dirty clothes.
Luna is a metallic sphere, which loads within, a little dose of water. When the sphere is placed into the dirty textiles, creates a cloud of fine particles of steam electrostatically charged, which comes out through pores of the metal surface, wrapping and permeating all the tissues. Luna flows between clothes through vibrations and pulses that control their movements, to scrub and shake tissues, detect dirt foci and detach it. The metallic surface of the sphere acts as a magnet: electrostatically charged, attracts dirt particles impregnated with steam and sucks these towards the core of the sphere. Finally, Luna dries with hot air the residual damp in the tissues.
I do have a couple of questions still. Do I have to have a special hamper? Because if I have to buy some $700 clothes basket I think I’ll just stick with the washer and dryer that I can’t use because my apartment has no hookups. What would happen if I just set this int he middle of the floor and let it go? Would it clean my whole room? That would be cool. Finally, how far away are we from having a washer/dryer/folder machine. Washing laundry doesn’t bother me too much but folding sucks. It’s like making the bed. If people didn’t judge me so harshly for having wrinkly clothing I would never fold another shirt ever.
