Unlike most Americans spam doesn’t frighten me. I don’t eat it often but when I do I’m rarely disappointed. For that reason I was happy to see these spam-filled doughnuts. Not only are they doughnuts filled with spam, they are also deep-fried. And that’s just great.
John Clarkson, owner of Mister Eaters fish and chips shop in Preston, Lancashire (England) has put a new twist on donuts by stuffing them with spam. After the spam is added, the donuts are deep fried to a crispy golden brown. Clarkson came up with the idea for National Doughnut Day, and he’s been making them to order for over $4 each. He told the Daily Mail last week that sales were going well, and he expects it to be a hit with regulars.
It doesn’t look likely that I’ll be visiting England any time int he next couple of decades so I’m going to have to make these myself. I may even go to the store early and get myself some Bismarks to work with.
